Serving up history
It’s a thrill to write a book that people connect with. We’re experiencing that with Shattering the Glass – over and over.
Excitement over women’s basketball today has whetted people’s appetites for the game’s rich history. We’re delivering the main course, so to speak – through the book (audio version now available!) and via bookstore talks, interviews, podcasts, presentations and social media.
People are hungry to know what came before Caitlin Clark, Dawn Staley, Napheesa Collier, Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, Geno Auriemma, Kim Mulkey, and so many others. We can’t even begin to mention all the college and pro teams and players that folks follow!
Ours is a multi-dish spread, we assure you.
Ms. Magazine recently ran our column on how women’s basketball players have faced a double standard, and still do. On the April 30 episode of Khristina Williams’ “In Case You Missed It” podcast, we delved into the ways the game’s history has brought forth the impressive play we’re relishing today, covering identity and activism as well as stars and strategy. Check it out on Apple Podcasts, or at your podcast provider (we’re the last 33 minutes of the show).
As we’ve traveled and talked, it’s become clear that these stories of strong, independent, self-confident women are especially important today – at a time when politics has sparked assaults on women’s bodily autonomy, the dismissal of female leaders from top federal posts, and renewed efforts to define women as in need of male protection, “whether they like it or not.”
Our napkins are still in our laps as we are scheduled for more national podcasts, appearances and opportunities to share our message of the generations of strong, determined women who have brought the game to where it is today. It’s a feast we value and appreciate. We’re ready for more courses, and hope you are too.
